How can I protect my domain with Filthy Rich Idea?

Protecting your Filthy Rich Idea domain is an essential part of managing your online presence. Filthy Rich Idea has three levels of domain protection to keep your domain info private, avoid losing your domain due to accidental expiration, and prevent unauthorized domain actions.

Why is protecting my Filthy Rich Idea domain important?

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, or ICANN, requires us to gather contact information for the person or business registering a domain name, known as the registrant or domain holder. This info includes name, phone number, address and other details, which is reported to the domain registry and shown on the WHOIS directory. Keeping your domain contact info protected helps prevent unwanted spam calls and emails, and makes sure you’re in control of what information is publicly available. But it’s not just about keeping your personal information private, either. We aim to help you protect your domain and your entire online presence.

What is Domains By Proxy®?

All eligible domains registered with Filthy Rich Idea have all domain contact info automatically substituted with proxy details from our privacy service provider, Domains By Proxy®. You’ll have your contact info on the domain itself, but it won’t be available to the Registry, or visible in the WHOIS directory unless you change the visibility settings on your domain. The domain still belongs to you — except now, you and Domains By Proxy® will be the only ones who know it. Domains By Proxy® isn’t available on some domain extensions.

What are my protection plan options?

We have three levels of protection available, so you can determine which option is best for you and your online presence.

  • Free Privacy Protection: Every domain registered through Filthy Rich Idea has their domain contact info automatically substituted with proxy details through our privacy service provider, Domains By Proxy®. Your contact info will still be on the domain, but proxy details will be used at the Registry and on the Filthy Rich Idea WHOIS directory.
  • Full Domain Protection: You’ll get the same free privacy to substitute your contact info, and security to prevent your domain from being hijacked. You’ll get alerts on high-risk actions, such as transferring awayupdating nameservers and changing contact information, and you’ll be required to provide your consent through 2-step verification.
  • Ultimate Domain Protection: You’ll get all the features of Domain Protection, plus expiration protection. We’ll hold your domain if your credit card expires, so you can update the card to process the renewal. And we’ll automatically enable auto-renew to ensure your domain doesn’t accidentally expire.

Domains currently on Full Domain Privacy & Protection or Ultimate Domain Protection & Security will continue being protected by these plans, until the domain is canceled, fails to renew or if the protection plan is downgraded.

How will people be able to contact me?

You’ll get a private email address that can be used to filter, block or forward emails to your chosen email address. This lets you stay in touch with anyone trying to contact the domain owner, while still keeping your personal email address private.

Can I change my protection level?

Yes, you can change your protection level at any time. You can upgrade your protection to gain additional security features. Or, you can downgrade your protection to remove the additional security features. Your domain will always have privacy on it to substitute your contact info at the Registry and on the Filthy Rich Idea WHOIS directory, regardless of the plan level.

How can I verify domain ownership?

We recommend adding a TXT record to your DNS zone file to verify domain ownership. This is the best option to maintain your privacy while letting you prove you own the domain name. You can also change the privacy settings on your domain, which will show all registrant contact information.

More info

  • Some domains aren’t eligible for privacy protection, due to registry restrictions. Review the Domain Name Registration Agreement for details.
  • If you’ve decided to invoke Nominet’s WHOIS opt-out policy, your contact information visibility will be determined by that policy, regardless of what protection level you have through Filthy Rich Idea.
  • Review your domain contact info to ensure your details are accurate and up-to-date.
